Courting Miss Lancaster by Sarah M. Eden

Harry Windower adores blonde, green-eyes Athena Lancaster, but alas, a penniless man like himself has no hope of winning a young noblewoman's hand. To add insult to injury, Athena's brother-in-law and guardian, the Duke of Kielder, has asked Harry to assist Athena in finding a gentleman of her dreams. But the lovesick Harry is cunning as well: as the weeks pass, he introduces Athena to suitors who are horrifically boring, alar
mingly attached to their mothers, downright rude, astoundingly self-absorbed, and utterly ridiculous.

Athena can't comprehend why she is having so little success meeting eligible and acceptable gentlemen. Indeed, her circle of admirers couldn't be be less admirable - nothing like the loyal, gentle friend she's found in Harry. But how long can Harry's scheme be hidden before it is discovered? And what will Athena do when she uncovers Harry's deception?

Escape into a charming regency world in this delightfully romantic comedy of manners that will entertain you to the very last word.

Sarah Eden has a great way with humor and romance. And she does both so well in a Regency Romance setting.

Miss Athena Lancaster has come to her sisters house to find a husband. Her protector and sisters husband, Duke Kielder, is wary of gold diggers seeking her hand so he asks Harry Windover to help whittle down the competition.

The only problem is Harry likes Athena but knows he can't marry her because he is poor. So he wants to make sure she marries the perfect man if it can't be him.

What ensues is comedic encounters, unworthy suitors and eventually, love.

Athena, after being introduced to many unsavory matches, finds her heart belongs to another. but will the Duke approve?

Sarah has written another great, clean, fun and funny romantic story.

Keep 'em coming!

Seeking Persephone by Sarah M. Eden

If you're searching for a delightful escape into the enchanting world of Regency romance, Sarah M. Eden’s "Seeking Persephone" is a charming pick that promises sweet romance with a dash of humor. This is one of my all time favorite books!

Here's why this novel won over my heart:

Set against the backdrop of early 19th-century England, "Seeking Persephone" introduces us to the witty and independent Persephone Lancaster.

Enter Adam Hunt, the formidable Duke of Kielder, whose imposing presence and stern demeanor belie a kind heart and a determination to protect his family’s legacy. He needs to marry and asks for a woman from a family who needs financial help.

What sets "Seeking Persephone" apart is its ability to blend humor with heartfelt moments. Eden’s writing style effortlessly weaves together witty banter, endearing characters, and tender romance, creating a narrative that feels both light-hearted and emotionally satisfying. The interactions between Adam and Persephone crackle with chemistry, evolving from initial misunderstandings to genuine affection as they navigate the complexities of their new relationship.

As the story unfolds, "Seeking Persephone" not only explores the growing love between its protagonists but also delves into themes of family loyalty, personal growth, and the power of forgiveness. Persephone’s journey from skepticism to trust, and Adam’s transformation from duty-bound duke to devoted husband, are portrayed with sensitivity and grace.

In conclusion, "Seeking Persephone" is a delightful read for fans of Regency romance seeking a blend of sweetness, humor, and heartfelt emotion. Sarah M. Eden’s skillful storytelling and engaging characters make this novel a charming addition to any bookshelf—a perfect escape into a world where love triumphs over societal expectations.

Title: His Disinclined Bride
Author: Jennie Goutet
Genre: Regency Romance

About His Disinclined Bride:
Theirs is not a love match. She’ll make sure of it.

Kitty Stokes never imagined she’d be so weak as to sacrifice herself on the altar of family obligations, but when the only alternative to marriage with Lord Hayworth is to play nursemaid to her brother’s children, Kitty reluctantly agrees. On her wedding day, she’s certain she has made a grave error, but it’s too late to back out.

Phineas Hayworth refrained from setting eyes on his new bride before their wedding day—the price he forced himself to pay for being so mercenary as to wed the sister of a wealthy merchant in a bid to save his estate from ruins. Her beauty, therefore, comes as a shock, as does her icy treatment, which he feels he deserves. He swears an oath he will not approach her for an heir unless the invitation comes from her.

As Phineas sets out to put his estate in order and present his new wife to Society, he finds her more enchanting than he could have hoped for, even in a love match. Kitty continues to hold him at arm’s length, although he suspects her feelings for him run just as deep. As Phineas’s love and desire for his wife grows, the oath he swore her begins to suffocate. It soon becomes clear that while he’d once been prepared to settle for a loveless marriage, he will not abide an unrequited love.

ALL HEARTS COME HOME FOR CHRISTMAS by Sarah M. Eden Anita Stansfield Esther Hatch Joanna Barker Regency Christmas

It's never too early for Christmas, right?! And you just know that all these authors will be amazing to read!

I was so excited to read Christmas at Falstone Castle. The Duke of Kielder is one of my favorite characters from Sarah Eden. The love story of his mom was so sweet!

The Heart of Christmas is a sweet story about lost, and found, love and healing hearts.

I love romantic stories where the two main characters have no thoughts to love, but through wit and witty dialogue and circumstances, they always fall in love. Tis the Season to Be Daring is my kind of story!

A Christmas dress and a romance! What could be better!

Christmas at Falstone Castle · Sarah M. Eden

The Dowager Duchess of Kielder eagerly anticipates spending Christmas with her son and his family. Though their relationship has been strained, the duchess is determined to heal the chasm. Even with the help of the widowed local vicar, her plan will take a Christmas miracle. But during this magical season, anything is possible . . . even two second chances for love.

The Heart of Christmas · Anita Stansfield

When a chance meeting brings together a gentle seamstress and a widowed banker, each lonely soul finds a first hint of hope. As their lives become entwined, it will take Christmas spirit to guide a broken family to love and healing.

’Tis the Season to Be Daring · Esther Hatch

Elizabeth Davenport has had quite enough of the London Season. Determined to evade a parade of unsuitable suitors, she seeks help from the one gentleman who has no regard for Society’s rules. All of Society knows Lord Hawthorne is not interested in marriage, yet he cannot deny Miss Davenport’s unique charm. And as the Christmas season works its magic, their charade begins to feel less like playacting and more like love.

The Christmas Dress · Joanna Barker

Seamstress Nell Addington is thrilled when her childhood friend Jacob Hammond commissions a dress for his sister. But when Nell realizes her feelings for Jacob run far deeper than friendship, an unexpected snowstorm—and some holiday cheer—may convince them both that love is worth fighting for.

LOVE IN DISGUISE by Anneka R. Walker

Marion Watt is set to embark on her first London Season, and her parents have spared no expense to help her secure a suitable husband. Unlike most of the social-climbing young women in her position, Marion has no desire to marry hastily or for anything less than love. But when she learns of her mother's declining health, she knows she must keep an open mind and allow herself to be courted. What she does not anticipate, however, is that the attentions of the insufferable Lord William Everton will be placed squarely on her. He might be the most sought-after bachelor of the Season, but she sees in him nothing but a frivolous cad.
Until William inherits his father's title and seat in parliament, he must rely on his own devices to change the world. Dressing like a ridiculous dandy serves its purposes, but he is certain his newest disguise will help him find a wife to please his parents and further his own agenda. From among the glittering group of debutantes, William finds only one woman who passes his test. Unfortunately, the perfect choice is the only woman in all of London who despises him.

Opening line:
"Marion's fingers trembled with anticipation."

Marion is a quiet, pretty, stubborn young lady trying her best to do her best. Unfortunately, for her, a stuffy, rude dandy with a reputation for snubbing the best musicales and balls, ruins her season. Marion's mother worries that her daughter will not make a suitable match because of the snub. Fortunately for her, she becomes good friends with someone who is kind to her.
Lord Everton would much rather be in the country then in town flirting with eligible young women who are thrown at him by conniving mothers. His mother also worries about her son making a good match. But Everton is distracted by his solicitor, who has brought him news that someone is forging his signature around town and taking Everton's money.
How the two come together is cute and I wish the 'scheme' would have been drawn out a little more.
Who comes between them adds tension to the story in all the right parts. I just wish Marion would been a little more brave and told the woman off.
Why someone adds tension and concern (the subplot) either didn't need to be in the story, or needed more fleshing out.
Throw in a death, a desperate woman and a gambling man and you have the makings for an intriguing romance.
BUT I did enjoy reading the story. I tried to put the book down around midnight and had to read 'just one more chapter' before going to sleep.
I've heard this is a debut novel, and it's fantastic. Good for Ms. Walker for writing flawed and human characters, bringing their world in vivid colors, and creating a story I wanted to keep reading.
I'll pick up her next book for sure!

Thanks to netgalley for the early read!

THE HEART OF A VICAR (The Jonquil Brothers #6) by Sarah M. Eden

Young love is all too fleeting, as Harold Jonquil painfully discovered years ago when Sarah Sarvol, the niece of a neighboring landowner, captured his heart. After an idyllic few weeks in the throes of blossoming love, reality intervened. They could have no future. Following their disastrous parting, Harold attempted to push aside thoughts of love and regret, but Sarah has never left his heart. Now, years later, he has achieved his lifelong aspiration of becoming the local vicar. However, the role proves more difficult than he imagined. He feels hollow and uninspired—until the most important person in his past returns, challenging him as no one ever has.

When Sarah’s ailing uncle summons her back to the family estate in England, there is only one person from her past she is reluctant to see again: Harold Jonquil, the only man who has ever claimed her heart. But when she comes face-to-face with her former beau, she hardly recognizes the aloof and dull man before her. She is determined to help Harold rediscover the passion he once felt toward his chosen profession. Soon, despite their exasperation with each other, they cannot deny the stirring of feelings long buried—but is it too late for second chances?

Opening line:
"According to his brothers, Harold Jonquil was born a vicar."

That sentence sets up a lot of expectations, and possible foreshadowing, of what is to come for "Holy Harry."
Harry is doing the work that he feels he was destined to do. "Act well your part" is the mantra Harry's father often repeated, and Harry feels he needs to live up to that. So he is acting well the part of a vicar, or what Harry believes is the part. The reality is, he is not living up to acting will A part of who Harry really is.
Sarah and her brother have been in America and were summoned back when their uncle sent them word that he is dying and the heir needs to take over the estate. Sarah looks forward to being back in the neighborhood where she has so many good memories. A certain Jonquil brother is prominent in most of those memories. But all is not well in the uncle's household, and soon, Sarah is the brunt of anger and hate from the uncle, which in turn shatters some of her expectations of a warm welcome back. The reality is, people change.
I loved the interchanges with Sarah and Harry. From the time they meet to the ending, is a sweet journey, though full of heartache, insights and a few misunderstandings. They came to love each other slowly and with care, helping build each other up.
I also loved seeing more of Phillip and Mater. I really love this fictional family and how they take care of each other and love each other. "No one is abandoned. No one is forgotten." I love the boys motto. There was a lot of side stories that really added to Sarah and Harry's story.
I really want to go back and reread all of the Jonquil and Lancaster books. But I think I'll wait until I hear a release date for Charlie's story.

Sarah Eden has a knack for witty dialogue, deep characterizations and pacing that moves the story along and engages the reader.

Thanks to netgalley for the early read!

THE NEW EARL by Heather Moore
Opening line:
"Celia Thompson read the horrible words of the letter in her hands."

LOVING LIEUTENANT LANCASTER (The Lancaster Family #4) by Sarah M. Eden

For the first time since returning to life on land, Linus Lancaster has something challenging to look forward to: the seemingly impossible task of preventing his infamous brother-in-law from wreaking havoc on a house party he is being forced to attend against his will. But Linus's sisters have something far more dangerous in mind... matchmaking!

 Opening line:
"Only a fool would ignore an edict from the Dike of Kielder, and though Linus Lancaster was many things, he was not a fool."

Hooray! The Lancaster's and Jonquil's are together in one book. There were a lot of laughs and sighs going on while I read this book of Sarah Eden's. Once again, her writing had me gripped from beginning to end with humor and a slow building romance.
Linus is back from his work as a Naval officer. He is suppose to take over the running of his estate that he feels he is not skilled enough to.
Arabella has become a companion to Mater and is not really sure of her place in the household. She is neither servant nor family. But one thing she does know is that she is happy to be living away from her abusive aunt and uncle and near to a family she has greatly admired.
Linus and Arabella slowly become acquainted with each other at Mater's weeks long house party. They are both shy but both seemed drawn to each other. As the story moves along we see that they are good for each other because they understand the pain of loneliness and the healing of kindness of others.
It was fun to read about so many other beloved characters in the families.
I would suggest reading the other books before this one to really get all the nuances and backstories of the characters.

Thanks to netgalley for the read!

A NIGHT IN GROSVENOR SQUARE by Sarah M. Eden, Annette Lyon, Heather B Moore

Three brand new Regency Romance novellas by Sarah M. Eden, Annette Lyon, and Heather B. Moore
Another great Regency antholgy from three fantastic authors!

A Match for Princess Pompous by Sarah Eden
"If Adelaide Northrop had to listen to one more ode praising Charity Goddard's eyes, she was absolutely going to strangle the offending amateur poet with his own overlarge cravat."

Love this one about the matchmaker!

Confections and Pretense by Annette Lyon
"In the back of Gunter's Tea Shop, Anne eased the back of mold into a basin of tepid water, then slowly counted to ten before pulling it out again, just long enough to release the ice cream from the metal."

Loved the American hero!

Little London by Heather B. Moore
"Harpshire Village was a far cry from London in both architecture and entertainments, and the type of people who lived in the village were simple fold."

I LOVED how the two love birds meet in this story.

Thanks for the early read!

A MATCH FOR PRINCESS POMPOUS by Sarah M. Eden
Matchmaker Adelaide Northrop may be embarking on her greatest challenge yet. Miss Odette Armistead has been dubbed “Princess Pompous” by Society’s elite, and Odette’s parents are desperate to see her married off to a respectable gentleman. When Adelaide first meets Odette, she is expecting a young lady who fits the pompous description. Instead, Adelaide discovers that Odette is far from conceited, but has chosen to wear a mask in a desperate attempt to hide her love for a gentleman who has been chosen for someone else. It seems that Adelaide has far more than matchmaking to accomplish.

CONFECTIONS AND PRETENSE by Annette Lyon
Anne Preston dreams of opening her own dessert shop some day and saves every spare penny she earns working at Gunter’s Tea Shop. She makes ice cream molds to perfection, bakes and decorates cakes, and hopes to one day be an independent shop owner. When an American man orders an ice, Anne is immediately taken with Davis Whitledge, but he is far above her station in life, so she tries to forget about his cordiality. Soon, she finds herself in a dangerous situation when confronted by two troublemakers, and Davis happens to be nearby. He sends the scoundrels on their way, but this only makes Anne more of a target. He doesn’t understand London ways, and his generosity has the potential to steal Anne’s dreams, or to make them soar.

LITTLE LONDON by Heather B. Moore
Ellen Humphreys has never had a Season, has never danced the waltz, and will likely never do so while confined to watching over her ill mother at their country estate. Therefore, Ellen creates her own Little London, and imagines all the gentleman she’d dance with and all of the friendships she’d have with other young ladies, if only she were allowed to have a Season. When Quinn Edwards, the Marquess of Kenworth, comes upon her quite by happenstance while Ellen is imagining herself in a London ballroom, she is mortified about her playacting. But a chain of events is set off from this one meeting that has Ellen questioning if her reputation would ever survive a Season or another encounter with the marquess.

HAVENCROSS by Julie Daines

When a shocking scandal involving her father spreads through London society, Elaine Cardinham and her parents are forced to retreat to their country home in Cornwall for refuge. But Havencross is no sanctuary for Elaine. She is haunted by the mysterious disappearance of her brother—and the heartbreak she left in her wake all those years ago. It has been five long years since Gareth Kemp last saw Elaine—when she rejected his marriage proposal. Her reappearance convinces him of one thing: he has never stopped loving her. To put his feelings for her aside, he focuses his attention on the dangerous smuggling plaguing the Cornish coast. As Elaine attempts to run from her past, she ventures ever closer to a dangerous truth—and Gareth may be the only one who can save her from a deadly finish.

 Opening line:

"Two hundred fifty miles into this journey and not a word spoken."

Deception, lies, romance, unrequited love and smugglers all roll along in Ms. Daines newest, delightful book.

Elaine's family is still reeling from the death of her brother and now from the scandal of something her father did. They move from London, and the wagging tongues of gossips, back to Havencross, their little country home. Elaine has no hope of marriage prospects now. How she wishes she would have accepted the marriage proposal of Gareth now.
Gareth's family is always reeling from a death. His father was killed by smugglers and he wants them brought to justice. But the local authorities don't seem to make any progress on finding the killers. When he sees Elaine again, he tries to stay away from her; she did break his heart, after all.

This story is set in Cornwall, England, in the era when there were smugglers. The story is woven masterfully to include tension, romance and suspense. There were tender moments between different characters. I really enjoyed the interchange between Elaine and her Aunt Rose and creating your own Camelot.

If you like regency romance, a well-written story and characters you can love, this book is for you!

Romancing Daphne by Sarah M. Eden

As her first London Season looms before her, the thought of the impending social whirl fills Daphne Lancaster's timid heart with dread. She hasn't her sisters beauty nor their talent for conversing easily. Even her family's enviable connections may not be enough to prevent disaster.

But Daphne's misery turns to surprised delight when the first event of her Season brings an unexpected visitor to her door—James Tilburn, whose tender kindness stole her heart in her youth. When the handsome young gentleman expresses his desire to court her, Daphne is elated. Their feelings for each other quickly grow, and it appears that, much to Daphne s disbelief, her happily ever after is within reach.

Yet nothing is as it seems. The couple finds themselves caught in a tangled web of greed and deceit, leaving James and Daphne to determine whether they are willing to risk everything for true love.

 Opening line:
"Daphne Lancaster stood hidden in the shadows of her brother-in-law's terrace, spying on Society's first introduction to a young lady of unparalleled beauty."

Poor Daphne! She is overshadowed by her beauty sisters; placed in the corner and ignored. She feels this is justified as she had been told many times how plain she is. A chance encounter with a kind young man gives her hope that she isn't forgotten, and she falls in love.

James Tilburn was the young man who called the young girl Little Sparrow and stole her heart, unbeknownst to him, of course. Six years later they chance to meet again. But it turns out to be more than chance and the lies and manipulation could ruin James and Daphne's hope at love forever.

Sarah Eden does a superb job at giving her readers character they come to love as one of their own family members. The plot moves along nicely as we move deeper into the story and intrigue that is keeping the couple (or couples) apart.
I really liked Daphne. I enjoyed watching her overcome her shyness and become a stronger person. I liked James too but I really wanted him to man up and tell Daphne the truth! I do have a confession...I ADORE the Duke of Kielder!

LORD FENTON'S FOLLY by Josi S. Killpack

Lord Fenton is a gambler, a dandy, and a flirt—and he must marry or else he will be disinherited, stripped of his wealth and his position. He chooses Alice Stanbridge for two simple reasons: he once knew her as a young girl, and she is the least objectionable option available to him.

However, Alice has harbored feelings for Fenton since their first meeting ten years ago, and she believes his proposal is real. When she discovers it is not, she is embarrassed and hurt. However, a match with the most-eligible bachelor in London would secure not only her future but that of her family as well.

Determined to protect herself from making a fool of herself a second time, Alice matches Lord Fenton wit for wit and insult for insult as they move toward a marriage of convenience that is anything but a happy union. Only when faced with family secrets that have shaped Fenton’s life does he let down his guard enough to find room in his heart for Alice. But can Alice risk her heart a second time?

Ah! Regency Romance! And just in time to read this book on the beach.
I've enjoyed Josi Killpack's books in the past and this one does not disappoint. Lord Fenton needs to marry or be disinherited. Alice has had a crush on him since they were young, so she's ecstatic when he asks her to be his wife. Until she finds out it is a marriage of convenience.

A good, clean book full of wit, humor, twists and romance.

An Unlikely Match by Sarah M. Eden

The future has never looked brighter for once penniless Nickolas Pritchard. Now in possession of an unforeseen legacy from a distant cousin, he can finally woo the exquisite Miss Castleton, belle of the London Season. What better setting for matchmaking than Ty Mynydd, his ancestral home nestled in the untamed hills of Wales? Ideal, indeed ... except for the ghost.

For nearly four hundred years, Gwen has walked the halls of the home in which she lived—and died a mysterious death. But despite centuries as the reigning force within her ancient residence, nothing prepares her for the charm and unexpected appeal of Englishman Nickolas.

A deep and abiding affection grows between the two, tempered by the unbreakable barrier that separates them. They cannot possibly hope for a happily ever after. there can be no future between a man yet living and a woman long dead.

But how can Nickolas possibly give Gwen up? And how can Gwen face an eternity without Nickolas?

Poor Nickolas. He is poor, he's invited to parties to round out the numbers and he has a crush on a woman whom he can't have. And he's a total playboy.
Until he's distant cousin dies and Nickolas Pritchard becomes heir to an estate and loads of money. Now that young lady and her parents look favorably on him. But the more he gets to know the  Ms. Castleton, the more he finds she's not quite what he wants in a woman. It's probably Gwen's fault his interest has changed. Only, it doesn't matter how much Nickolas falls for Gwen, she's a ghost. The Ghost who haunts the estate Nickolas just inherited. How can a person fall in love with a ghost?
Once again, Ms. Eden delivers on story, wit and character development. Throughout the story, the reader gets to watch the main characters grow. I especially enjoyed watching Nickolas change and deepen.

EDENBROOKE by Julianne Donaldson

Marianne Daventry will do anything to escape the boredom of Bath and the amorous attentions of an unwanted suitor. So when an invitation arrives from her twin sister, Cecily, to join her at a sprawling country estate, she jumps at the chance. Thinking she’ll be able to relax and enjoy her beloved English countryside while her sister snags the handsome heir of Edenbrooke, Marianne finds that even the best laid plans can go awry.

From a terrifying run-in with a highwayman to a seemingly harmless flirtation, Marianne finds herself embroiled in an unexpected adventure filled with enough romance and intrigue to keep her mind racing. Will she be able to rein in her traitorous heart, or will a mysterious stranger sweep her off her feet? Fate had something other than a relaxing summer in mind when it sent Marianne to Edenbrooke.

Loved. This. Book.
I'm gushing.
I love a good, clean, smart book. Throw in romance, a dashing gentleman and lady who can laugh at herself and I'm sold. EDENBROOKE was a book that left me sighing. And strangely, uplifted. That doesn't happen often. Not that I expect every book to leave me feeling good. I don't. I like good writing. I like a good story. I like characters that make me like them. Edenbrooke did all that for me too.
Marianne's mother has passed away and her father is grieving in a different country so Marianne is sent to her grandmother in Bath. Marianne's twin sister is in London, visiting family friends. Marianne is sent to be with her sister at Edenbrooke.
Marianne is spicy and sassy and funny. I really liked her. She was my favorite character which means Ms. Donaldson did a great job of writing.
Oh yeah. There is a swoony gentleman named Philip. He's tired of mothers shoving daughters into his life because of his money and possessions. He's running away when he meets Marianne and helps her. Which makes Marianne mad because she wants to prove she in capable.
Gushing over. I was a little disappointed in the way the two love birds finally got together. I think it went too smoothly. That is my only complaint and it's not a big one. There were obstacles all along the journey until the end where I think the sister gave up a little too quickly. It didn't seem to be in her personality to give up. So I needed a little more of the sister changing her attitude. BUT! It wasn't a big deal because I got to *sigh* at the end anyway.
I'll buy this book for my library and will read it again.
Good job, Julianne!
